Her Story
Coming out of running
retirement
I started running as a high school sophomore to get in shape for basketball and found out I was good at it. By my junior year I had run my first 50-mile ultramarathon and finished as the first woman.
I went on to run Division II cross country and track at Indiana University of Pennsylvania. In 2017 I joined a 25-person team running 4,000 miles from San Francisco to New York City in 49 days for the Ulman Foundation.
After college I stepped back from racing to chase other outdoor adventures. On April 10, I return to ultras for the first time since 2018, and I'm running it for MissionCleanWater.
“Medals don’t matter much to me. I’d rather use what I can do to help others.”
Where the miles go
Four hours a day, given back
In rural Uganda, the walk for water can take hours, and it usually falls to women and girls. Too often, a new water system breaks down within a few years and families go back to the same unsafe sources.
MissionCleanWater exists to break that cycle. We work alongside the families who use each system and check every system every month, so the water keeps flowing. When we surveyed 745 women served by our systems, they told us their daily water collection time fell from about four hours to 30 minutes, and 97% said they felt safer.
Every Mile Counts
Give $51 for a dollar a mile, or choose any amount. Every gift goes toward MissionCleanWater’s clean water work in eastern Uganda.
