Journey Across The NPT
Start Date: August 14th
Goal: $5,000
Harrison Kelly and Jak Krouse will be undertaking a novel and unprecedented challenge to raise funds for MissionCleanWater. The Northville-Placid Trail is a 138-mile trail that travels through some of the most isolated backcountry in the Adirondack Park.
The two clean water advocates will be hiking the entirety of this trail to raise $5,000 towards MissionCleanWater. These funds will specifically be used to ensure New Jersey communities have safe clean drinking water and that they can continue their work in Uganda.
As with most adventures, the pair has decided to make the challenge harder than it needs to be. In order to attempt this expedition in a unique way, the two will be hiking all 138 miles barefoot, as well as limiting themselves to only 11 days on the trail.
Adirondacks and Clean Water
From being completely logged and barren a century ago to being a protected wilderness area today, the Adirondack Park is a conservation success story. Historical conservation efforts in the Adirondack Park have been largely due to clean water projects. Part of the history and foundation of the Adirondacks is based on the necessity for drinking water throughout all of New York State. Through this unique challenge in a home of clean water conservation, Harrison and Jak will aim to raise $5,000 for MissionCleanWater.
Northville-Placid Trail
The NPT is a 138-mile-long trail that crosses the entire Adirondack Mountains in New York. Hikers will experience pristine forests, wade through lakes, and climb multiple mountains.
While beautiful, the resources on the trail are very limited. It navigates through the most remote areas of the Adirondack Mountains that require self-resilience. Hikers have to carry most of their food, filter water, sleep in shelters, and navigate with limited service.
This is no beginner hike.
