Lwala

We started the Lwala project in 2020 knowing it would likely be one of our biggest projects yet. Lwala is a district in northern Uganda where multiple communities and community centers relied on two water sources for their drinking water. One of those sources stopped working putting added pressure on a single hand pump well being used by 10,000 people.

In the summer of 2022, we fully completed the water well rehabilitation of this project and it has since been used by all parties. This includes two communities, two schools, and a regional hospital.

Creating a Step Forward

Since the completion of this project, the results have been more than we initially expected. Still in its early stages of adoption as a project, we have seen the health, education, and resources for the community greatly increase.

The results include:

  1. Clean water connection year-round to two communities totaling 10,000 people.

  2. Clean water connection year-round to two schools.

  3. Clean water connection year-round to a regional hospital with a direct connection to the youth and maternity wards.

  4. Improved community health is reported by doctors because fewer community members are dehydrated. Able to better diagnose health concerns.

  5. Recharged water tables and overall water coverage since one well is not being over used.
