Awasi

Awasi is a special community to us. It is one of the communities some of our team members call home. And after assessing their water situation, we learned it needed addressing. While most communities use little hand-dug wells to collect water from, they heavily relied on a local marsh 2 miles away. During the dry season, portions of the marsh can go dry making community members dig little holes in the wet ground to try and get access to some water.

This project was completed and is providing water to the 3,000 community members of Awasi. This project was completed in the Summer of 2023 and is continuing to develop new impacts each day.

There is a proposed extension of this project so it can reach the Awasi Primary School.

Creating a Step Forward

The results include:

  1. Clean water connection year-round to Awasi helping 3,000 people with access to clean water.

  2. Improved general hygiene of community members with high adoption of bathing and hand washing.

  3. Better access to school with children spending less time collecting water throughout the day.
