Akuoro & Angole

The Akuoro and Angole project was completed in January of 2020 and is providing clean water to both communities and the Angole P/S. Each community member is within .5kms of a collection point and students have universal access to clean water when at school.

The passion To move forward

Split between a road and a floodplain, Akuoro and Angole share their resources as farmers. They have never had a clean water source, and rely on small hand-dug wells. All of these sources are dirty, shared with animals, and risk the health of the community. For the dry season, a majority of their water sources go dry––forcing them to walk up to 3 hours to find water.

The hardest situation is for their primary school, which has 1,200 students. There is no water at the school. If a student wants to get water, they will miss on average 3-4 class periods.

A proposed extension of the project is expected to be completed in 2024.

A community working together

Akuoro has been hosting community meetings to develop their water solution once ready. They have created their own water user committee and have plans for a sustainable maintenance program.

A Shared Resource

The main hand dug well is shared with animals, covered in algae, and goes dry for 6 months out of the year.
